Clinical Care and Quality Committee: The committee seeks ways to address pertinent issues that affect pediatric GI practice in both the institution and community-based settings with an emphasis on quality and clinical care issues. Included in this effort are: novel projects and research initiatives to gauge and improve current clinical practice and quality of care; reviewing and guiding the development of societal manuscripts including clinical guidelines and position papers; and supporting the educational process by reviewing vignettes for the annual meeting and providing MOC Part II materials.

Clinical Practice Committee: This committee addresses the needs of the pediatric gastroenterologist whose primary focus is in the clinical care setting. The committee currently is addressing a variety of projects of interest to the clinical pediatric gastroenterologist. Within the committee, a group of members work on reimbursement and billing issues, Internet research initiatives for clinical practice, in-office grants, advocacy for the clinical pediatric gastroenterologist as well as other practice issues. The committee has the responsibility of interacting and advocating for the pediatric clinician whether they practice within an academic or private practice setting.

Endoscopy & Procedures Committee: This committee coordinates with the NASPGHAN Foundation for endoscopic activities and advance endoscopic training for trainees and members by providing activities at NASPGHAN meetings, on the website and inter society activities. The Committee is a member of Annual Meeting Committee and promotes endoscopic research both within and outside NASPGHAN. The Committee also is a liaison with AGA, AASLD ASGE AND AAP and designates liaisons for ERCP SIG with SIG chair. The Committee corresponds with ASGE to increase exposure at DDW. The Committee is also responsible for the image library. Finally, the Committee is responsible for the production of clinical guidelines and reports in line with current practices in pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Hepatology Committee: This committee focuses on promoting education, research, quality care and advocacy in the field of pediatric hepatology and transplant hepatology. In its educational role, the Committee is responsible for symposia planning at the annual Liver and Digestive Diseases Week meetings. Its members also participate in updates of clinical guidelines and position statements on matters related to liver disease and liver transplantation in children. The Committee also identifies areas in pediatric hepatology and liver transplantation, and working with the Public Affairs and Advocacy Committee, advocates on positions it believes will benefit children with liver disease.

Pancreas Committee: The overall purpose of this committee is to promote the field of pediatric pancreatology. Its goals involve the expansion and dissemination of knowledge about pancreatic disorders, improvement of care for children suffering from pancreatic problems, advocacy for these children and their families, as well as promoting and supporting research within the realm of pancreatology. The Committee liaises with other NASPGHAN committees (in particular Endoscopy & Procedures, Training, Public Affairs & Advocacy, and Public Education Committees) to address common overlapping goals, and aims to similarly create links with external organizations. It is hoped that through the development of educational materials for the public and physicians, involvement in continuing medical education endeavors, and support of basic/ translational/ and clinical research, that the overall care and quality of life of children with pancreatic disorders will improve.

Professional Education Committee: The committee is charged with providing and vetting outstanding professional education to the membership of NASPGHAN including non-physicians members. To this end, the Committee designs, organizes, and conducts the Postgraduate Course that is part of the annual NASPGHAN meeting. We are involved with sessions held at multiple other national and international society meetings such as DDW and PAS with our responsibilities including creation of session topics, inviting speakers, and moderating. We also function in the role of CME content editors for multiple NASPGHAN foundation educational offerings such as webinars, podcasts, handouts and even conferences such as the N2U meeting.

Public Affairs and Advocacy Committee: The committee works closely with NASPGHAN leadership and NASPGHAN’s Washington advocate to address issues relating to clinical practice, research, patient care and safety, and other areas of interest to pediatric gastroenterologists both in private practice and academic environments. The committee does this by meeting with congressional representatives, communicating with government officials, regulatory and funding agencies, and uniting with other organizations or coalitions with similar interests.

Public Education Committee: The committee is responsible for developing, reviewing and publishing educational materials for the public (patients, families, caregivers). Content development for NASPGHAN’s public education website, GIKids.org, is our top priority. Committee members participate in writing, editing and developing topic articles and audiovisual content. Training Committee: This committee supports NASPGHAN activities aimed at a spectrum of trainees, ranging from medical students doing summer research, to residents exploring the possibility of a career in pediatric GI through the Teaching and Tomorrow program, to fellows pursuing scholarship and deciding on specific career pathways at the Fellows conferences.
