International Women's Day 2024

NASPGHAN Celebrates Women’s History Month

NASPGHAN is proud to celebrate the continued contributions made by our female members who have been both pivotal to the success and growth of this society, as well as more globally to the fields of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology!

Recognized as an annual declared month in the US since 1987, Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society. Learn more about Women’s History Month and ways to celebrate at womenshistorymonth.gov.  The 2024 theme for Women’s History Month is “Inspire Inclusion” (#InspireInclusion)¹ to encourage recognition of those who have led the effort to “forge a more inclusive world for women”.  In this spirit, NASPGHAN remains indebted to the tireless work of female healers and leaders.

According to the most recent American Board of Pediatrics workforce data, of the 2,232 Pediatric Gastroenterologists certified since 1990, 47% are female (still reported in binary terms)².  This percentage slowly increased in the past 50 years. In the last 10 years, 70% identify as female which is similar to general pediatrics residency demographics. We have made progress and led the way among pediatric subspecialities and we still have work to do.
